Mary Beach

Region:
The village of Scaloti is 1 kilometers to the east and Frangokastello is 3 kilometers to the west. There are many tavernas and mini markets in Frangokastello. 13 kilometers further west is Hora Sfakion, with a daily ferry service to the magnificent inlet of Loutro, Aghia Roumeli and the historic city of Paliochora.

This little paradise of apartments is magnificently located right on the seafront, in the relaxing unspoilt region of Laki. Mary Beach is relaxingly located 1 kilometers down a country lane off the main road leading to Frangokastello. Enjoy fantastic mountain views and many secluded sandy coasts and coves in the immediate vicinity of the property. There is a large garden to the front of the complex with trees, shrubs, umbrellas and chairs, allowing for moments of indulgent relaxation. Just past the end of the garden you will find the sandy coast. The region is superb for fishing, diving and snorkelling, with lots of hidden coves along the rocky coastline. As the sun sets, you can return to Mary Beach and have a meal in our traditional taverna.

The apartments are perfectly located for visitors who wish to go on short local excursions, including Gavdos Island. You can also have free private place to park during your stay.

Rooms:
All rooms have a balcony or terrace with a sea view. They are light and airy and the twin and double bedrooms, all of which have a private sea-facing balcony and polished stone floors, are comfortably but simply furnished and have their own shower room (or bathroom). Some rooms have a double bed and a single bed for 2 adults and one child. There are rooms with a connecting door between them and a small kitchen, ideal for families. The family room for 4 people has a very nice sea view, 2 balconies and is connected to another double room through the balcony which can be used as an apartment for 6 people. There are also some rooms with a kitchen (studios).

Eating:
There are lots of taverns and restaurants in Plakias and in the villages around Plakias with very good food, fresh fish and low prices. The olive oil and the cretan cuisine is very well known around the world.

Region:
The Horizon Beach Hotel is located in a very nice area in the west end of the village, 400m from the heart of the village. The village Plakias is on the south coast of Crete, in the region of Rethymno which is in the middle of the island and makes it easy to visit the other parts of the island, the gorges, the mountains, the archeological places and the rest of the natural loveliness of Crete. Very close to Plakias is the historical monastery of Preveli with its palm-river and palm-coast, many other superb coasts with clear water surround Plakias and are a perfect area to see.

Directions:
Travellers can visit Crete by plane, there are two worldwide airports, Chania and Heraklio or by a ferry-boat from Piraeus to the seaport of Souda, Rethymno or Heraklio. There also is a ferry to Peloponese and the Cyclades islands in summer. Plakias can be reached from the airports or ports by buses or taxi.

Important:
Horizon Hotel, recently fully renovated, is set by the sea and haves splendid views across the bay. Right below there is a sandy and shingle coast with clear water where you can swim. Although our hotel is in a relaxing position, you can find several stores and tavernas within a distance one can walk. Ideal for near and longer walkings in the typical cretan countryside and several small villages nearby!
