Paleochora lies on the southwest seashore of Crete in a distance of about 70 km from the city of Chania and about 200 km away from Heraklion. The city is built on a peninsula between two beautiful bays in the Libyan sea. Paleochora is a lively settlement, and is known for its golden sandy beach called "pachia ammos", meaning "thick sand" in Greek.
